The project started with two clear goals. First, to develop a chair produced entirely through ERG’s in-house manufacturing capabilities. Second, to offer broad aesthetic/finishing flexibility within a simple, well-defined platform.
Chrissie has a clear and versatile presence, providing designers with a canvas that can be easily customised to meet their specific requirements.
Chrissie has three defined elements: the seat and back, the frame, and the arms. Each is carefully proportioned to create a balanced overall composition, offering distinct material qualities and textures. As a result, Chrissie can shift effortlessly between different expressions—serious or playful, refined or relaxed—adapting to a wide range of settings and design intents depending on how it is finished.
During our initial visit to ERG’s production facilities, the metal workshop immediately stood out. It is increasingly rare to find manufacturers who manage upholstery, joinery, and metalwork all under one roof. Given its environmental and cost benefits, potential for customisation, and the added value of supporting local manufacturing, it was clear that the project should be produced entirely in-house, leveraging these high-level internal skills and capabilities.
