Genus Task
Genus Task

Developed for the North American market, Genus is designed for extended periods of use —where ergonomic performance and comfort are critical. An intelligently engineered back system of interchangeable parts offers numerous options off a single universal frame. Chief among them is a unique moulded elastomeric membrane, contouring and intuitively adapting to support every user’s individual back. Perforated to aid flexibility and comfort with inbuilt ventilation, this robust and hard-wearing back is available in a wide range of colours. Genus is designed to accommodate efficient inventory management as well as infield repairs – easily dismountable with materials separated for recycling.

A balancing act

The design of the frame and the elastomeric infill are closely interdependent, requiring careful coordination. The frame suspends the membrane in space, maintaining key reference points that allow the elastomeric material to flex effectively within set parameters. The pattern’s shape directly influences its performance. This relationship was refined through digital stress testing, prototyping, and iterative experimentation. Through this process, we fine-tuned the areas where tension was most needed and flexibility encouraged.

Client testimonial

I’ve had the privilege of working with Webb for the last 15 years. It’s important they win awards with their/our designs, and everyone loves that, but they also design for manufacturability and volume. They are not only an organisation I would recommend, but one that I will use again. The best!
